Scale Etude No. 14 in E minor
Scale Etude No. 14 is a sneaky little devil of a piece that twists in and out of the shadows while reminding me a bit of the theme from ‘Pink Panther’.
Scale Etude No. 15 in D minor
Scale Etude No. 15 is a nice piece that gets students breaking away from the Alberti Bass pattern slightly while remaining familiar.
Scale Etude No. 16 in B minor
Scale Etude No. 16 takes a nice approach to presenting a scale that can feel somewhat awkward under the fingers initially by breaking it apart and syncing both hands up together.
Scale Etude No. 17 in G minor
Scale Etude No. 17 provides the same scale based ideas in a 3/4 feel which is always good to reinforce
Scale Etude No. 18 in F# minor
Scale Etude No. 18 has a very nice minor feel without being overly ‘sad’ and provides an interesting rhythmic line to discuss how rhythms interact with time signatures.
Scale Etude No. 19 in C minor
Scale Etude No. 19 is great for reinforcing that C minor scale as well as providing an opportunity to really hone in on some nice dynamic phrasing.
Scale Etude No. 20 in C# minor
Scale Etude No. 20 has a mixture of either tribal or Rock ’N’ Roll or perhaps both. It has a fun sound and explores the same ideas in different registers on the piano while also getting that C# minor scale up to impressive speeds.
Scale Etude No. 21 in F minor
Scale Etude No. 21 has a fun ‘chunky’ sort of middle section and surreptitiously disguises the F minor scale in in it’s melody.
Scale Etude No. 22 in G# minor
Scale Etude No. 22 is a personal favorite. It has a neat flavor and the scales are marvelously fun to play.
Scale Etude No. 23 in Bb minor
Scale Etude No. 23 really drills in the upper tetra, and what I think to be the more awkward and difficult part of the scale, in the melody and has a nice tone to it.
Scale Etude No. 24 in D# minor
Scale Etude No. 24 come across as a miniature massive piece but also serves as a great exercise in pacing and keeping tempo with varying durations of note.
